Activities
Our safe and secure gardens offer a variety of experiences for all age groups of children.
Children have the opportunity to enjoy planting and growing activities, and to increase their knowledge of birds, animals and insects. The bird feeders encourage a variety of species of birds into the garden and squirrels are a common sight in the trees surrounding the nursery.
We also have a mud kitchen in our middle garden giving the children the opportunity to explore their natural environment. We have recently had a sheltered outdoor unit built allowing the children to engage in activities outdoors as well as indoors in all weather conditions.
There is even a small climbing wall in the garden which all ages use and enjoy!
We feel that nursery outings are an important way for children to learn about the world around them and the children go on local outings to the library, museum etc. on a regular basis. With the help of parents we are also able to take the children to places further afield like Calderglen Country Park, the Science Museum and the Transport Museum. We recently took a group of our 3-5 children on a trip to the Circus which they loved!
In our 3-5 room, we have established a Care Home group that engages in intergenerational play. Our regular visits to the local care home facilitate the development of meaningful relationships and create a rich learning environment that bridges different age groups. Not only do we visit the care home, but our friends from there also join us at the nursery for special events, allowing them to partake in our significant celebrations, such as graduations and Christmas festivities at the Hunterhill Community Centre. This initiative truly exemplifies that friendships and learning transcend age boundaries.
We are
extremely lucky with the nursery being located right next to the
Jennyswell Local Nature Reserve, which is used on a regular basis to
go exploring by all age groups!
The Jennyswell Nature Reserve features expansive open grasslands, a scenic woodland walkway, and a secure play area, all of which are effectively utilized by each playroom. Outdoor play, experiential learning, and exploration are integral to the Jennyswell experience, and we are committed to maximizing the potential of our local environment
Our 3-5 room hosts a forest kindergarten group that collaborates with the 'Friends of Jennyswell' to establish a dedicated section for forest-based learning. Each week, the children venture to the nature reserve, engaging in a variety of activities that allow them to explore their local environment and participate in extensive outdoor educational experiences.

At Jennyswell Nursery we are very keen to have parents involved in the day to day life of the nursery as much as possible. To facilitate this, we hold various events throughout the year which you will be invited to including coffee mornings, information sharing evenings, open days and concerts.
